12FPS | A Creative Agency

Creative/Strategy/Social/Video. 12FPS is a creative agency that transcends mediums to promote revolutionary ideas. We believe that, behind every great story are real people making bold decisions. It takes timely technology to share timeless stories.

This blog ran on Tumblr from 2012 to 2018. It is kept here as an archive.

Day 4 of Susy’s 12FPS takeover: My very first weekend in New Mexico, I went with some friends and my dad to White Sands. I had no idea what I was getting into, no expectations whatsoever. Imagine my surprise when we drove into what could only be described as a part of the moon, right here on Earth? Ever since, no matter how many times I visit, or what season it is, its never-ending beauty and endless dunes take my breath away. It’s quite a magical view, to see your footsteps disappear with the movement of the wind, one of many unique natural gems this state has shown me this last couple of years.

Day 3 of Susy’s 12FPS takeover: Shooting with other foodies is the best, it’s not everyone who is willing to take 20 minutes turning around a plate of pancakes to find its best angle! We had such a fun time when @punkodelish and @ovunno visited this summer, shooting delicious breakfast food at Cafe Fina! One of the many highlights of working on the #HowToSantaFe campaign!

Day 2 of Susy’s 12FPS takeover: One of the coolest things about Santa Fe is its people, and one of the best things about the people is their love for food. I’ve learnt so much about healthy eating, discovered new greens and produce and expanded my palette thanks to amazing people who have shared their knowledge and relationship with food. I just went through a 15-day cleanse with Leafy Greens, which is something I thought I’d never do— even less enjoy! But I loved it! All this new knowledge has also helped a lot with my food styling and creativity in the kitchen! Really, a win-win situation.

It’s Day 1 of Susy Alfaro’s 12FPS takeover! Susy is headed back to Costa Rica soon, so she’s sharing some of her favorite photos and stories from her time with us. Take it away, Susy…

Moving to Santa Fe was such a multifaceted change. I’ve always enjoyed exploring new places and when I discovered the colourful Farmer’s Market, I fell in love! It’s such a great conglomerate of people, sharing their own produce and their stories. Every time you go, it’s a different market, different people - it’s one thing in the summer, something completely different in the winter- and I think that’s why it’s so unique. I’ve had someone tell me about how they found the love of their lives and now they sell produce together, I’ve danced la bamba with a local musician, I’ve stilted around and so much more! What more can you ask of a place than good stories, love and colourful, rich food?

When she was growing up in San Jose, Costa Rica, Susy spent many an afternoon with her grandmother. “She was a Spanish teacher, and she taught me to read and write long before we learned it in school,” she says. “My first stories were about a golden retriever named Napoleon.” Her grandmother passed away a few years ago, but Susy still carries her spirit every day in her writings. She found her way to the United States through a study abroad program at the Santa Fe University of Art and Design, and swiftly worked her way up from academic intern to producer at our Santa Fe office. She has used her skills as a writer, photographer and cook to spearhead numerous projects, from the HowToSantaFe campaign to an epic Bettyventure. Outside of work, she has developed a passion for circus performance at Wise Fool New Mexico and produced food features for 1905 Magazine. Susy is returning to Costa Rica in early February, but we’re excited for future international collaborations. In her honor, we’re spotlighting her favorite and images and stories from 12FPS projects over the next few days. Over to you, Susy! #12FPSPortraits On Facebook

When KT boarded a plane to Los Angeles earlier this month, their phone was loaded with step-by-step instructions and emergency contacts. “I was going through every worst-case scenario in my head,” KT says. “I texted my friends, ‘If this goes all Castaway, know that I love you guys.’” Growing up in Norman, Oklahoma, KT never traveled too far outside of their home state. Attending the film program at Santa Fe University of Art and Design was a big, but necessary leap, geographically and culturally. Their solo adventure to California took things to another level. “It was a huge, 'adult’ thing for me,” says KT. “I try to predict problems before they exist, but I’ve found that the world’s not as scary as I think most of the time.” This meticulous and prescient nature lends itself to KT’s work at 12FPS. They’re finishing up studies in video post-production at SFUAD this semester, but already play an instrumental role in the editing room of our Santa Fe office. KT spearheaded the post-production of our New Mexico Communities of Care training videos, including a video centering around LGBTQ+ youth, a group that is close to their heart. “Part of it is out of necessity because, having lived as a trans youth, I’ve seen the ways people can react to those kinds of identities, even if you’re in the closet about it. I want to do anything I can to help make that climate a little bit safer, for myself and for other people. My art boils down to the desire to tell new stories, and do what I can to further narratives that haven’t been as visible,” KT says. "In industries like filmmaking that have so much value in our society, we have a responsibility to create something that represents people as people, in all our intricacies.” #12FPSPortraits On Facebook

Dwight left the financial industry to help build 12FPS into an agency that promotes stories and ideas that make a difference. His passions for adventure and activism have shaped the 12FPS ethos. “We choose projects that inspire actions amongst our audience, and move the world in a better direction,” he says. “Global changes can happen overnight if the right message is there.” Whether he’s snowboarding remote mountains or innovating with the latest technologies, Dwight is always on the hunt for a new perspective to share. “The range of projects we work on is huge for a small agency, so that always keeps it fresh,” Dwight says. #12FPSPortraits On Facebook

When Adam Kennedy (known around 12FPS as A.K.) set out to build his own personal computer a few years ago, he made a creative breakthrough. Seeing a complicated machine as the sum of simpler parts lent him a new perspective on everything else. “It has to do with identifying when something can become more complex, or less complex,” A.K. says. “What’s the vision of the whole project, and what are its individual parts? I feel like that can be applied to any kind of project, whether it’s building a computer or making a website or a film.” As the Creative Director of 12FPS, A.K. has a hand in every step of each project, from concept to post production. It helps that the San Francisco native has a wide range of passions: micro electronics, 3D animation, documentary production, virtual reality universe building. When you see the world in cross section, anything is possible! #12FPSPortraits On Facebook

Our tall, charming Gemini who embodies the planet Mercury’s gift of communication believes we should all ASK MORE QUESTIONS. “People benefit a lot from opening up and asking questions about the world,” Jordan says. “I think it’s easy to get trapped in your own head and forget how to connect, and it’s important.” With a background in journalism, Jordan brings his ability to pull out a compelling story. He’s a great brainstormer who helps investigate the heart of a story. #12FPSPortraits On Facebook

Colette grew up in Portland, Oregon and studied journalism and cinema at the University of Oregon. Her penchant for storytelling has inspired many adventures, including a five-month solo trip across Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. The journey was a turning point. “I learned how to be my goofball self and be less concerned about how people see me,” Colette says. She brings this witty and flexible approach to her work as a producer on our San Francisco team, imbuing everything she touches with exuberant energy. “Passion is creative force, and 12fps give creative agency,” she says. “I get to manipulate, change and be a part of each project, which reinforces a part of me.” #12FPSPortraits On Facebook
