Entry 027 // Glow
.
Location // Yosemite
.
Field Log // Looking back at the last days of an expedition is always bittersweet, but we couldn’t have asked for a more ethereal finale than Yosemite National Park. When the morning light plays across Half Dome’s craggy face, it comes alive like an ancient being imparting cosmic wisdom to the @bettyventure crew. Happy 100th birthday, National Park Service. You fill our hearts with joy, and our field log with endless adventures!

Entry 023// Chorus
.
Location // Arches National Park
.
Field Log // “Wilderness. The word itself is music,” wrote Edward Abbey, who spent several summers as a park ranger at Arches National Park and wrote the 1968 memoir Desert Solitaire. Peering into this divine keyhole, we could hear the swells of a symphony.

Entry 025 // Void
.
Location // Arches National Park
.
Field Log // “Space is the breath of art,” quoth architect Frank Lloyd Wright. The arches are majestic, but the vistas they frame are just as important to the transcendent experience.

Entry 024 // Reef
.
Location // Bryce Canyon
.
Field Log // From the 8,000-foot-high rim of Bryce Canyon, the park below looks like a majestic coral reef. We wished we could leap off the edge and swim through the air, exploring the vast canopy of craggy peaks. The park’s lowest point is Yellow Creek, at 6,620 feet. It’s a deep dive!

Entry 023 // Rabbit Hole
.
Location // Bryce Canyon
.
Field Log // Bryce Canyon National Park is naturally color-coded. Brown, pink and red cliffs are hematite, and yellow cliffs are limonite. The resilient white cliffs form monoliths, while more delicate pink cliffs are shaped into hoodoos… and holes! 🕳 The park’s dramatic rock formations make you look up, but don’t forget to watch your step. .

Entry 022 // Little
.
Location // Bryce Canyon
.
Field Log // We’re back on the trail of our #NPSCentennial tribute, with memories from Betty’s many adventures in national parks and monuments. Bryce Canyon National Park has one of the highest concentrations of freestanding pinnacles called hoodoos anywhere in the world, and there are also arches, natural bridges, walls and windows scattered throughout the park. Exploring them was humbling, like scrambling around a giant’s sandbox. We felt like ants, and Betty was our big yellow beetle. .

Entry020 // Deja Vu
.
Location // Monument Valley
.
Field Log // Another short hiatus from our celebration of the #NPSCentennial, this sunrise at Monument Valley (part of Navajo Nation) still makes our heart pound with excitement. This valley has appeared in many a western movie—Easy Rider, Fort Apache—not to mention Forrest Gump and National Lampoon’s Vacation. The iconic view provided a shot of adrenaline early in our Desert Southwest adventure.

Entry 019 // Anomaly
.
Location // Shiprock, NM
.
Field Log// The Shiprock formation is part of Navajo Nation, and therefore not a national park or monument. It is a remarkable treasure though, so we are sneaking this capture by @adam.ly into our #NPSCentennial tribute. The Navajo name for this anomaly of the flatlands is Tsé Bitʼaʼí, which means “winged rock.” We sought it out far past midnight on the first leg of our Desert Southwest #bettyventure, and it looked like a regal vessel, ready to hoist its sails and catch the current of the Milky Way. Entry 018 // Bad Betty
.
Location // Badlands National Park
.
Field Log // @leahrosemai and Billie Jean roam among the spires of a sprawling natural castle. This park originally tried to take the name “Teton National Park”, to avoid the stigma of being called Badlands. We all know how that turned out. Betty likes the Badlands—its name appeals to her wild side. Visit @bettyventure tomorrow for more posts in celebration of the National Park Service Centennial. .
